Paleo Fried Shrimp, A Crispy Seafood Entrée

This recipe for fried shrimp looks like work, but trust me, its not. I just like to elaborate on the instructions when I have tips or tricks to make sure that something works out perfectly…which is what you get below!

This recipe is great. The shrimp come out crispy and tender. If you don’t want to completely fry them, just use a little oil, or bake them (see below). Though if you are Paleo, you’re probably looking for good fats, so a little frying never hurt anyone!

Recipe: Paleo Fried Shrimp


  • 20 raw, large Shrimp*
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Tbsp + 1 tsp Arrowroot Powder
  • ½ cup Almond Flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened Coconut Flakes
  • ¼ tsp Onion Powder
  • ¼ tsp Garlic Powder
  • ¼ tsp Paleo Adobo Seasoning
  • ¼ tsp Coarse Sea Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper
  • Coconut Oil (for frying)


  1. *I cannot stress the importance of buying raw shrimp. If you buy it pre-cooked, it will taste like a chewy rubber band. They just never do it right, and I don’t make recipes for pre-cooked food. Just an FYI for now and the future…
  2. Mix together the 1 teaspoon arrowroot powder, almond flour, unsweetened coconut flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, Paleo Adobo Seasoning, coarse sea salt, and black pepper in a bowl and set aside for later.
  3. Beat the eggs lightly and mix in the 2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder. Once thoroughly incorporated, add the de-shelled shrimp.
  4. Coat the shrimp in the egg mixture, then cover with breading, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (or greased if you don’t have any). I like to curl mine up, because that’s how I like to eat them.
  5. If you are not using parchment paper, once the shrimp have all been breaded, put the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This will help the breading stick to the shrimp. Sometimes, I do this even a couple hours in advance. If you are using parchment paper, you don’t need to do this at all.
  6. Once ready, heat the coconut oil in a pan over medium-high heat (I use about a 6). Always do a test to make sure that its hot enough (I use a little piece of extra breading).
  7. Fry the shrimp in the oil until each side is golden brown. This should take about 3-4 minutes on each side. If they are turning brown too quickly, turn down the heat a little.
  8. When golden brown, remove from the oil and drain on a paper towel.
  9. Don’t want to fry?? Bake these perfect little seafoods at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 16-18 minutes for baked shrimp!
